Death Valley Camping Trip

The Death Valley Camping trip is scheduled for Feb 19th-21st – 3 campsites have been booked.

The trip planning and organization is in place however, we are in need of parents who can officially take the lead on this trip (who are chartered and have youth protection training).

272 miles / 6 hours drive (includes an hour lunch break)

3 campsites – one tent per campsite (4-8 people tent)

General Campsite Information:
Adjacent to the Ranch at Death Valley and the Death Valley Visitor Center is the Fiddlers’ Campground, available for only $29-$34 per night. With your nightly rental, guests enjoy the Ranch’s natural spring-fed swimming pool, shower facility, coin operated laundry and sports courts including a Tennis Court, Shuffleboard, Volleyball, Bocce Ball and Basketball Court. The Campground is located close to the Ranch’s restaurants, as well as the General Store for camping supplies, groceries and mementos to remember your journey. Furnace Creek Golf Course is directly adjacent to the Campground for those who want to golf the lowest elevation course in the world. (These sites do not have water, sewer or electrical hookups and are back-in only)

Sites at each location do not have picnic tables or grills, but community fire pits and picnic areas are located in two central locations in the campground.
All sites are back-in only; no pull-through options exist.
Shower facilities are located at the Furnace Creek Ranch pool.
Quiet hours are 11 p.m. – 7 a.m., but generators may be run at night.
No more than one tent is allowed in each site.
There is a limit of 8 guests and one vehicle per site.
Tow cars or other vehicles may be parked in the adjacent Ranch or golf course parking lot.
Pads are not required under jacks or stabilizers.
There is no guarantee that the campsites will be adjacent to each other

Trip Details –

Saturday Feb 19th –

2 pm – Meet at Fiddler’s Campgrouds, Furnace Creek / Death Valley, CA 92328

2-3pm – set up camp
3 pm – leave for Golden Canyon hike then Zabrinski Point – explore, light hike, enjoy sunset
6 pm – back at the campsite for Dinner (scouts and adults to prepare dinner with their patrols; there are restaurants onsite as well)
8 pm – Stargazing, swimming (bring bathing suit) etc.

Sunday Feb 20th –

7-9 am – Breakfast, prepare picnic lunch, get ready
9-10 am – visit Furnace Creek Visitor Center, get park pass and watch the movie on Death Valley
10 am-1pm – Ubehebe Crater (56 miles, 1 hour drive) – we will hike, explore the crater and eat picnic lunch
1-5pm – Leave for Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes (40 minutes drives), bring boogie boards or sleds
6 pm – back at the campsite for Dinner (scouts and adults to prepare dinner with their patrols)

Monday Feb 21st –

7-10 am – Breakfast and pack-up
10am-1pm – Visit Badwater Basin and Salt Creek, eat picnic lunch
1pm – leave for Mosaic canyon – light hike (This activity will be based on timing as last time we spent a lot of time enjoying Salt Creek)
3pm – everyone leave for home or if anyone would like to explore more, you can on your own

Costs

Campsite – $189 total for 2 nights for 3 sites – to be divided pp once participants are confirmed
Gas – each car responsible for their own
Park pass – each car responsible for their own
Food – Scout and Parent patrols to plan meals (Fri- dinner, Sat – breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner, Sun – breakfast and picnic lunch)
